Astral Media continues to be the country's largest private-sector investor in English- and French-language Canadian content, financing every stage of film production, from script development, equity investment to promotion. Astral Media also supports the television and radio industries by commissioning Canadian original programming, and providing visibility to Canadian talent by showcasing it on its airwaves.

Since beginning in the film and television industry in 1983, Astral Media has invested over $1 billion in support of home-grown Canadian film and television. In Fiscal 2006 alone, Astral Media's pay, specialty and radio networks spent $120.3 million on the development and purchase of Canadian content, on original programming and in support of emerging talent. Of that amount, $68.9 million was spent by Astral Media's French-language services.

This year, The Harold Greenberg Fund proudly celebrated the 20^th anniversary of its English-language program, and the 10^th anniversary of its French-language program.

Founded in 1986, Astral Media was the first broadcaster to set up a private fund for film financing, called simply, FUND. In 1996, the name was changed to commemorate Harold Greenberg, the Company's founding President, who was an early champion of Canadian filmmaking, and passionate about the industry. It was at this time that a French-language fund was launched.

Since its creation, The Harold Greenberg Fund/Le Fonds Harold Greenberg has invested $50.7 million in support of over 2,374 Canadian film and television projects.

In Fiscal 2006, The Fund/Le Fonds invested $5.1 million in 168 projects including, Canadian actress Sarah Polley's directorial debut, Away from Her, which screened at the Toronto International Film Festival and Kari Skogland's The Stone Angel, based on Award-winning Canadian writer, Margaret Laurence's novel by that name. The French-language program also invested in the documentary, Parents de la DPJ, directed by Joël Bertomeu and La Brunante by Fernand Dansereau.
