Paul Gross’ sweeping Canadian war epic Passchendaele cleaned up at this year’s Genie Awards ceremony in Ottawa, taking home a total of 6 awards, including Best Picture and The Golden Reel Award. Passchendaele received support from The Harold Greenberg Fund’s Equity Investment Program in 2007.
A total of 13 films supported by The Fund and Le Fonds received Genie nominations this year, including Amal, Emotional Arithmetic, Fugitive Pieces, Heaven on Earth, Normal and The Stone Angel. Amal took home the Genie for Achievement in Music – Original Song, Fugitive Pieces was recognized for its Achievement in Cinematography and The Stone Angel won Achievement in Music – Original Score. Callum Keith Rennie received a Genie for his work in Normal (Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role), and Ellen Burstyn was recognized in the category of Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role (The Stone Angel.)
